The Butcher & I received a lovely thank you card in the post yesterday. I thought I would share it for Cat Thursday. They are by a Western Australian Company called TantaMount Greeting Cards,  and I love to support local businesses.
This one is called "Evil Kitty 2" Jigglypuff and I play this dance all the time.

I thought I would add a note. My cat's name is really Jigglypuff, yes after the Pokemon. Sometimes you will see me call her Miss Jigglypuff  and the time she was licking the cream I called her Jiggly Puff as in Cream Puff. Just in case anyone was confused at my silly word play.

I also wanted to share this - make of it what you will.

The Sookie Stackhouse Companion - Spoilers Warning!

Spoilers Warning!

The Sookie Stackhouse Companion by Charlaine Harris contains a new Novella called "Small Town Wedding". It appears chronologically between Dead in the Family and Dead Reckoning. Small Town Wedding covers the story of when Sookie accompanies Sam to his brother's wedding after the two natured have reveled themselves to the public. It is a little story in itself, but it certainly adds something to the overall story. It is also significant because Sookie admits her love for Eric on at least two occasions.

The rest of the book has a few bits and pieces about the Sookieverse. There is an explanation about where all the short stories fit in with the series. A chapter about the different kinds of supernatural beings. A family tree to show Sookie's fairy ancestry. Trivia questions and answers which could be useful for a True Blood fun night. Southern Recipes are included such as Lafayette's special burger sauce, Caroline Bellefleur's Chocolate Cake and Merlotte's Chicken Strips. There is also some discussion around the True Blood TV Series and Charlaine Harris's other works. My favourite part was a map in the beginning of Bon Temps. I love books with maps. I think this is a must for fans of Sookie!

Hey there Little Red Riding Hood!

If I said that I saw a movie directed by Catherine Hardwick, where Billy Burke played the father and there was a love triangle where two young men vied for the attentions of the same girl, and there was something about werewolves in it - you'd probably guess I was talking about Twilight. But what I actually watched two nights ago was Red Riding Hood  which is now on DVD. But thankfully there's not a sparkly vampire to be seen anywhere.
Now I have to admit that I'm in the school of thought that I preferred Twilight to the two sequels and I think that had a lot to do with Catherine Hardwick being the director - because sparkly vampires aside (which no one could pull off and I still don't get why Meyers ever wrote that bit in) Twilight was visually gorgeous and I remember seeing it at the movies and holding my breath at the beautiful scenery and the gorgeous chemistry. Hardwick knows how to direct a love scene with steamy repressed emotions and unfulfilled desire. But enough about Twilight.
I think Hardwick brings to this movie some of the same charm. It is also visually stunning and the chemistry sizzles. It's a little more scary and gory but about the level of an M. Night Shamalan movie. But as I'm sure I've mentioned before I spend a lot of time looking at costumes and houses and set design and scenery when I watch a movie and that's what I also liked about this movie.
The day after I watched it, I wrote on my Facebook

"Oh my - I loved this movie - I want all the dresses in it and I want to live at Grandma's house. I hope I look like Julie Christie when I'm a grandma :)"

This movie will keep you guessing about who the Wolf really is, with Grandma, the priest, Peter or Henry being the prime suspects. It also wasn't lost on me that one of the boys is named Peter, as in Peter & the Wolf - which I was even more familiar with as a child because we had the record of the symphony and would listen to it all the time. The full cast is listed in the IMDB  but Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia! Letters to Juliet. Dear John,)) is just gorgeous. I would say watch this movie for the costumes if nothing else. But I liked it.

The Butcher who Bakes - Cookbook Review

I have been wanting to write about this for a week or more, but you know how life gets in the way.
On the 19th September my husband (known on this blog as The Butcher) and I, were so honoured to be invited to the book launch of Grace Maiolo (forever after known as The Butcher who Bakes). It was such a lovely night at Friends Restaurant and all of the delicious food we were served was from Grace's delightful cookbook.

Grace is a bit of a local personality from her Cooking with Grace show on 6PR radio and the other great work she does in the industry. She's a fantastic role model for young women - working in a non-traditional trade and standing tall and proud to be a woman in a traditionally men's domain.

All in all the night was a wonderful one and I hope Grace enjoyed it after all her hard work. We were serenaded by the ever charming Peter Harries - who has a place in Perth TV history you can read about here and a place in people's hearts. He wrote a lovely tune for Grace's book launch which is an ear worm I can't stop humming :) See the video by  Stellar Visions. (BTW about 2 and 1/2 mins into the video is me and my butcher putting our two cents worth in -ha ha)

The book is a delightful mixture of recipes from simple to gourmet. There are so many useful tips about choices of meat cuts, knife care and all those hints you can use to keep the kitchen running smoothly. I have also heard that Grace excels at entertaining and she has certainly added many hints and tips about decorating and presentation that are sure to turn all of us into dinner party hosts a la extraordinaire (excuse my French)!
Grace shows hints and short cuts you can take to cook scrumptious meals that look like you are dining at a restaurant but will take you very little time to prepare. Your family will think you've been taking lessons.

The Butcher Who Bakes is written by Grace Maiolo and Published by The Creaticians. Available for purchase online and at selected retailers in Australia.

Winners of my Giveaway & Belated Cat Thursday

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately my health has taken a little turn for the worse so I really do apologise for not doing this sooner. But everyone who commented, followed etc. between 19th September and 30th September were put on a list and these are the results.

The winners are:

Michelle from The True Book Addict and Alicia (FB liker).
Congratulations you have each won a copy of T.S. Elliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" which is the poems that the musical "Cats" was based upon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
It was a good example of randomness  - as one person with many entries won and one person with one entry - I enjoyed the maths in that :)

Thank you sincerely once again to everyone who has been so supportive over the past year. I wish you all the best with your books, crafts and cat adventures.
I am hoping to bring a few more interesting things to your attention this year, and I will keep reading everyone's blogs and reviews and enjoying your cat's antics.

AND

Here is my belated Cat Thursday
