We're off to see the Wizard...

Last week, thanks to Hoyts and TCM we won free tickets to see The Wizard of Oz (1939), Even  though I saw this movie as a child and  put the video on for my kids to see, it was quite different seeing it on the big screen and as a mature adult. There were many laugh out loud moments and my hubby and one of the kids sitting near us, had a good old belly laugh going on. For me, it was the childlike wonderment of the movies.  It reminded me of when my mother took me to see some of the old movies like Gone with the Wind and My Fair Lady on the big screen. The delightful thing was, that everyone clapped at the end of the movie, like they used to when we were children. Here are a few screen shots and an outfit board for Dorothy that I created on Polyvore.  (P.S. I also spotted some gorgeous items around Dorothy's home in Kansas, that us vintage types would adore. )

Guest post: Once Again from the Land of Fractals by Troythulu

A Word from Kate:

Troythulu and I met through a love of science and skepticism, but we have found a common love of learning (he's more disciplined than me - despite what he says), a love of reading, creative pursuits and cats. Or should that be CATS since they demand the most attention?

A quick word about fractals for the lay person. Remember when you were at school, and graphed an equation? You'd get a line or a curved graph. Well, some equations when graphed produce infinite pictures of repetition. If you tried to do this on paper, you would end up with too many pencil marks and wouldn't be able to see it clearly. Now thanks to computers, you can see all the intricate details. That is a very simple explanation, but I hope you can appreciate the complex maths that goes into making these pictures.

Thanks to my creative friend Troythulu for allowing me to post some of his wonderful images. (Please remember these images belong to him and ask before re-posting and make sure you attribute him.)

This is my parent's cat. Her name is Lady Jane. She is a real lady. When people visit she rarely grants an audience. They aren't worthy of her notice. She's a real beauty and she is so spoiled that if her biscuits have been sitting in the bowl for too long, she demands that her humans stir the biscuits for her, before she will eat them. If the humans don't wake early enough to feed her, she will give them a gentle prod with her paw. She has a special corner in the lounge for her toys with a blanket, a mat, and a basket for her toys. We are truly privileged to share this earth with her.

Snow White and the Huntsman

Have you been to see Snow White and the Huntsman yet? It's visually stunning. I'm thinking of going to see it again while it's still on the big screen. It's by no means a perfect movie, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The DVD comes out in October and I will be buying it for my collection. But I think you need the big screen to get the best effect.

Cat Thursday - Jigglypuff's woes

Jigglypuff didn't have a good week. She had to have her flea drops and her worm medicine this week.
As if that wasn't bad enough she got caught by Starchaser, putting her paw through the cage to hit the guinea pigs and got in trouble. She spent a lot of time moping around and staring in the fish pond remembering the days when she could have caught them.
In the end I gave her some cheese and that cheered her up a bit. She likes cheese (just like Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Charlaine Harris in Australia & a Giveaway

Sorry I am late with this post, but crazy life took over again :)

My lovely daughter and I raced into the city to see Charlaine Harris on Tuesday Night. I was very excited because I have read all of her Southern Vampire Series books except the last two.
Charlaine did a Q and A where she answered questions about her books and characters including Sookie Stackhouse, Lily Bard, Harper Connelly and Aurora Teagarden. She disappointed a few readers when she said that she didn't have Bill and Eric locked in her basement - only in her mind :)
