These little stockings make cute ornaments. They will hold a roll of mints or lifesavers if you like. By using larger needles and thicker ply yarn, you can make larger ones that can fit things like a mini packet of raisins (the skinny packets, not the lunchbox packets.) I used fluffy white wool for a cute effect, but you can use plain.
5 ply red and white wool or acrylic yarn
3mm (No 11 UK or Size 2 US) needles
Cast on 30 stitches in red.
Knit 6 rows.
Row 7: K16, sl 1, K1, psso, turn.
Row 8: K4, K2 tog, turn.
Row 9: K4, sl 1, K1, psso, turn.
Continue row 8 & 9 until 17 stitches remain, knit to end.
Knit 20 rows.
Join in white wool, knit 6 rows.
Cast off and leave a long thread, to crochet a loop.
Sew up and you have a little stocking.
